Ah, the online or emailed party invitation. What would Emily Post think? The truth is, they can actually be pretty great for many different occasions!
I think there are some occasions where a proper, formally mailed invitation is best. For a couple reasons. They are more traditional, more formal, and make a guest feel important and special.
A good-quality paper invitation is also a really special thing that the guest, and host, may want to save for years to come. I love looking back on wedding invitations, 1st Birthday invitations with adorable photos of baby, and other important milestone events.
However, aside from these, there are many other celebrations where an emailed, virtual invitation is perfectly acceptable, and much more convenient!
To start, you probably have most, if not all, of the recipients’ email addresses handy at a moment’s notice in your phone or computer.
Plus, you can also include helpful links in the invitation to a gift registry or mapped directions to the event, which save the guest time in looking up this information on their own.
It is also super easy to keep track of RSVPs, and if you want to notify all (or only some) of the guests with new or changing information, it is completely effortless to add a comment or message to the invitation, and an email will go out to all your guests with the update!
And, as a guest? My personal favorite is the option to see who else has been invited and who is going to the party. Your social anxiety thanks you, ha!
Plus, gone are the day of the 10 clip-art looking templates. “Now-a-days” (Am I 90?!), online invitations are beautiful, and there are hundreds of perfect and customizable templates to choose from to compliment your celebration theme! Including the option to add a personal photo – whether it be a funny one, or sweet and posed. You can even have a little virtual envelope “open” revealing the invitation, which is a clever touch I think many find endearing and fun!
A great option for online invitations is Paperless Post. Paperless Post designs customizable online invitations that feel personal and well-designed. They even works with brands, such as Kate Spade, Gray Malin, Jonathan Adler, and Rifle Paper Co., for some gorgeous and recognizable stationary options! (And the Derek Blasberg ones are hilarious!!)
Whether you are throwing a Halloween party, hosting Thanksgiving dinner, watching the big game, or rounding up the neighbors for a backyard bbq, the online invitation is a great way to go. It is a great option for Bachelorette parties, or other girls’ night out. Game night, football Sunday, brunch, …the list goes on! And, it is also becoming more popular to use them for bridal showers, baby showers and birthday parties, too!
Check out some of my favorites below!
(This is just an example – if we all show up to The Cannery I’m going to need a larger table, lol!)
Here are some others I love!
Paperless Post even has options to send virtual birthday cards, thanks you cards, and more – making correspondence much more glamorous than an email or text.
Do you ever use online invitations? I’d love to hear your experience and for which occasion it was used!
Paperless Post reached out to me and provided complimentary online invitations in exchange for my review. But I wouldn’t recommend any brand that I didn’t totally love.
